Ground Water Wells in Kilakarai

Urai Kinaru in Kilakarai

Ground Water wells are found in 90 % of the houses in Kilakarai. People in kilakarai are taking water from this Water wells for their day-to-day use like Bathing, Washing, Cooking and for some more uses. As the Tamil Nadu government asked every family to implement rain water harvesting in their houses. Kilakarai people have turned out all the rain water to their water wells. This helps in increasing the ground level water in and around kilakarai.

These days people in down south of Tamil Nadu started demolishing the traditional water wells as the 6 inch water bore is enough to have the water for their living. After some decades, if any one wish to see a water well, he/she has to come to kilakarai to see it and also for taking photos of the traditional living.

Kilakarai water wells are specialized with a type of construction used in it. In Tamil language it's called as Urai Kinaru (Ringed-Wells).

Water well drillers will drill the ground to some certain level till the ground water level is reached. Once the level is reached they will drop the Urai ( cement block in round shape) into the ground in a sequence, up to the land level.

Kilakarai has surplus Ground Water wells.
