Kankatchiamman Temple in Mayakulam village

Kankatchi amman Temple

Kankatchi amman Temple is located in Mayakulam village near Kilakarai under the Ramanathapuram district This temple has superior powers and people in Mayakulam village believes that the goddess in this temple  saves  from all evils incurred to them.
The festival for this temple is taken place every year around the time of Diwali. During this season a important thing to be noted is the offering of  Paniyaram ( A South Indian Dish) to the kankatchi amman goddess. On this occassion people gathers in front of the temple, setting a big stove and keep a vessel filled with cooking oil on it to make the Paniyaram. Once the paniyaram is cooked, the priest in the temple will take it out using his both hands with out any burns in his hands, After than the people who had fasting on a certain period before the occasion would do the same as like priest.

Another wonder is that the priest would lit the light with water instead of oil. He will go to the sea shore of mayakulam and get some water and pour it into the Light and make it lighted.

For seeing these wonders, people in and around mayakulam village will rush together. After the function is over, people will be served with good food. This is the main function which must be seen by every individuals at Kankatchi amman Temple.
